How to care for and clean your window blinds

Taking good care of your window blinds helps them to last a lifetime. Cleaning and maintenance is a part of owning your blinds and helps them to look nice too.

There are certain things you should and shouldn’t do to clean your mini-blinds, wood blinds, or faux wood blinds. You do have to be careful not to damage them.

Here are a few tips from The Dallas Shutter Company on how to (and not to) care for and clean your blinds.

Don’t Clean Your Window Blinds By…
  • Using window cleaner
  • Using abrasive cloths
  • Using a stiff brush
  • Spraying them with a garden hose outside
  • Using soap or other cleaning solutions

Our Dallas shutter company would never recommend using window cleaner, soap, or any other chemical on your beautiful wood blinds will damage them and may void the warranty.

This is also a no-no for faux wood blinds. Equally, washing them with a garden hose will damage the hardware and control mechanisms.

Easy Way To Clean Window Blinds

While it may seem impossible for mini-blinds, you can use a static dust want to clean them. If you use the type that reaches between the blind louvers, be careful not to damage the strings or hardware.

The easiest way to keep the dust from caking on the surfaces of your blinds is to dust often enough. It’s much quicker to clean your blinds if you keep up the maintenance.

Cleaning Stains On Your Blinds

If there are stains or is a sticky substance on your blinds, just dampen and squeeze a clean, soft cloth. Wrap a tip around your index finger and gently wipe the stain in a horizontal motion while supporting the louver underneath with your other hand.
